10 Frightfully Fun Family Halloween Costumes
I was working in the lab late one night… AKA, doing a late-night Pinterest scroll to search for this year’s family Halloween costumes. And while I landed on our annual theme, there are SO many fun ideas out there that I had to compile a list of my own to share. Keep reading for family costume inspiration and links, plus throwbacks to some of my favorite costumes from years past!

Family Halloween Costumes: Disney Magic
My family and I are huge Disney fans (see this video for proof!). So it should come as no surprise that I’m including some Disney family Halloween costumes on this list! Here are some ideas that I think would be great for a group.
Alice in Wonderland
This theme was one of my favorites! Hans was the Mad Hatter, I was the Queen of Hearts, the boys were Tweedledee and Tweedledum, baby Sadie was the Cheshire Cat, and Nora starred as the main character.
Incredibles
These movies are so much fun. And now I’m thinking about the Incredi-coaster at Disney… do we need to plan another trip soon? (The answer is yes!) If you can get your family on board with tights and Spandex, this is a great option!
Toy Story
One of the great things about these films is that because there are several movies, there are plenty of characters to choose from (i.e., less arguing about who gets to be who).
Star Wars
Who wouldn’t love dressing up as characters from this iconic franchise?!

Ghostbusters
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters was 2024’s family costume inspiration.
Wizard of Oz
This is the perfect family Halloween costume theme with the second Wicked movie coming out this year. But honestly, the Wizard of Oz is pretty timeless. Bonus: If you have a dog, they can be Toto!
Jurassic Park
The metaphor of parents as scientists or rangers trying to manage wild dinosaurs (the kids) feels pretty accurate some days.
Adventure & Imagination
Pirates
2023: A pirate-themed family costume! 2024: I added an arrrgh-solutely fabulous front-yard pirate ship display.
Minecraft
All of my kids love this game, so if they had their way, we’d all be transformed into pixelated Minecraft characters.
Mario Kart
This video game is a classic, and the costumes make it easy to step right into the game.
