5 DIY Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids and Grown-Ups Alike
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good store-bought gift! But there’s just something extra special about a handmade present, especially for Mother’s Day. If you have a little time to get creative, these five DIY Mother’s Day crafts are thoughtful, meaningful, and fun to make. I’ve included a mix of ideas, with some that are perfect for adults to put together, and a couple that are simple and kid-friendly. Either way, these ideas are a great way to make Mom feel celebrated!
DIY Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids: Love You Bunches Art
We’re starting off with a Mother’s Day gift from kids! And if they’re a little older, they can probably handle most of it on their own.
Start by tracing your child’s hand on a piece of colored cardstock (let them pick their favorite color), then cut it out. On a separate sheet of white cardstock, glue down just the palm of the hand cutout, leaving the fingers unglued and facing upward.
Once the hand is in place, draw a few simple “stems” starting between the thumb and index finger and extending upward onto the page. Next comes the fun part: have your child dip their fingertips into an ink pad or paint and press their fingerprints onto the paper to create flower petals at the top of each stem.
After the paint or ink has dried, fold the fingers of the hand cutout down over the stems so it looks like the hand is holding a little “bunch” of flowers. Add their name, and it’s ready to gift! If you want to turn it into more of a keepsake, you can also frame it!
DIY Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids: Heart Magnets
I originally made this craft for Valentine’s Day. But it works just as well as a sweet and simple Mother’s Day gift from kids! You can find the full tutorial and supply list in this blog post. Here’s a little sneak peek at how it turns out!
Mother’s Day Gift Idea: Mini Herb Garden
This one’s for the mom with a green thumb. Or anyone who just loves something fresh in the kitchen or on the windowsill! And you can easily personalize to fit her favorite things. If she loves lavender, plant lavender. If she’s a great cook, choose a few of her go-to herbs. And bonus: it might be the easiest project on the list. All you need are a few miniature planters (I used toothpick holders!), potting soil, and seeds.
Fill each planter with soil, add your seeds, give them a light watering, and they’re ready to gift! It’s one of those small ideas that feels extra special because it keeps growing long after Mother’s Day.
DIY Mother’s Day Gifts: Decoupage Frame
I love a gift that doubles as decor. You probably already have most of the items needed for this decoupage picture frame and will only need to choose the napkins and picture frame! The full tutorial is only five steps, making this a fast and easy DIY Mother’s Day gift option.
Mother’s Day Gift Idea: Decoupage Vase
I was fully in my decoupage era earlier this year, and I ended up making a piece that’s actually perfect for Mother’s Day! I felt a little iffy about this decoupage vase at first. But it definitely grew on me, and now I love how it turned out.
The good news is, you can skip the trial-and-error part! If you follow the tips and tricks in this post, you’ll avoid the little mistakes I made and end up with a finished piece you’ll love right away.
Which of these DIY Mother’s Day gifts are you going to choose? I’m sure the mom in your life will love it, because she loves the person who made it. Happy Mother’s Day!
