How to Hide Cords from Wall Lights

You find the perfect sconces, bring them home, and hold them up to the wall and think, “Yes, this is exactly what this room needed.” And then you notice the cord hanging there, completely ruining the vibe. We’ve all been there, but the good news is you don’t have to choose between the lights you love and a space that actually looks finished! Whether you want to go fully wireless or just make those cords disappear, both are way easier than you’d think, and make a major difference. Keep reading to learn how to hide cords from wall lights!

How to Hide Cords from Wall Lights: What You’ll Need

  • Cord Hider
  • Spray Paint to Match (or Contrast Against) the Wall
  • Adhesive (If it doesn’t already come with the cord hider)

How to Hide Cords From Wall Lights: Method #1

First, let’s state the obvious: hiding cords is a lot easier when your wall has texture or moulding. It just gives the cord somewhere to blend in rather than sitting flat against a smooth surface. That said, you can still camouflage a cord on a bare wall with a few tricks!

Start by grabbing a cord cover and measuring the length you need, then trim it down. Next up: paint. If you have white walls and want things to look as seamless as possible, leave it white. If your walls are a different color or you want the cord cover to tie into the fixture itself, spray paint is your best friend. For example, if your wall light has brass hardware, grab some brass spray paint! I went with a color that matched the bamboo accent wall in our guest bedroom, and the cord cover almost disappears completely.

Once it’s dry, it’s time to stick everything to the wall. Apply adhesive to the back of the cover. (You may want to trim it into a thinner strip first so it doesn’t stick out as much, especially if it’s white and your cord cover is darker.) Then press it to the wall and feed the cord through from the sconce down to the outlet. That’s all there is to it! What used to be an eyesore is now basically invisible.

If “basically invisible” isn’t good enough and you want the cord gone entirely, then the move is to skip the cord altogether. Battery-operated sconces are a great option, or you can grab rechargeable light bulbs to turn almost any fixture into a completely cord-free light. A lot of them have great features like color-changing or dimming. And some have warm red tones that are great for winding down at night. Plus, the color-changing ones are a big hit with kids.
