DIY Gingerbread Village
I recently fell in love with some mini gingerbread houses I saw online. What I didn’t fall in love with: the price. So, I decided to create my own DIY gingerbread village instead! And I ended up loving my own gingerbread houses even more than the pricier alternative. This project is extremely easy and only has a few steps and supplies. You’ll have your own gingerbread village before you know it!

DIY Gingerbread Village Supplies
- Ceramic Houses (There are so many cute options for these! I’ve included a bunch to choose from here.)
- Brown Spray Paint
- Snow/Icing-Effect Paint
- Glitter
- Fairy Lights
- Bottle Brush Trees
- Garland or Stems
- Tray
Step #1: Spray Paint the Houses
First things first: We need to paint the houses. I spray-painted mine in this aptly-named Nutmeg Brown shade, then let them dry for a bit before moving on to step two!
Step #2: Add “Snow” & “Icing”
This white paint gives your DIY gingerbread village a gorgeous snow-and-icing effect, and it comes in a bottle with a writer tip, which is perfect for this kind of project! I painted it around the doors and windows, and added it to the roof and other spots in a few different patterns to mimic the ornate detailing real gingerbread houses are known for. You can also sprinkle on some ultra-fine glitter for an extra icy, magical touch.
Step #3: Style Your DIY Gingerbread Village
Once all the paint is dry, start setting up a quaint Christmas scene. I put my village on a tray on my dining table, but they would also look cute styled on a shelf, mantle, or the top of a piano!
Next, add bottle brush trees and a garland or pine stems. This gives the village a cozy, enchanted forest vibe that’s perfect for this time of year. And don’t forget the fairy lights (so you can still see your decorations after it gets dark at 4:30 PM 😂).
